EH wins state Spell Bowl; New Palestine Elementary also hosts contest
CHARLOTTESVILLE — With hours of practice learning to spell 1,643 words, Eastern Hancock Middle School’s Spell Bowl team could be excused for celebrating its title as the state’s best spellers days after winning the competition.
After all, the group is in pretty exclusive company: The team of 13 became state champions in their class, outscoring six other teams that had also advanced to the state level.
The competition was Saturday, but this week, the team was still rejoicing in their victory.
