Tom Riley Kingen, age 77, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He was born in Indianapolis on July 24, 1944 to Quitman Kingen and Vivian (Baker) Kingen. He graduated from Vernon Township High School in 1962. Tom was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from 1962 to 1967. On June 21, 1968, he married, the love of his life, Janis Purkey in Fortville.

Before retiring in 2002, he worked for Midwest Insulation and was a member of Union Local #18 in Indianapolis for 36 years. He was also a member of the VFW #6904, American Legion #391, and the Indiana Deer Hunters Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and watching football games. Tom was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, who never met a stranger. He was loved by anyone who crossed his path.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Jan Kingen of Greenfield; son, Brian (Erin) Kingen of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Kyle, Cassidy, and Caleb; and sister, Sue Ellen Keller of Brown County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quitman and Vivian Kingen; and infant sister, Luanne Kingen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
