Janet Louise (Bell) Bettler, 81, formerly of Greenfield, passed away at King’s Daughters’ Hospital on October 5, 2021 in Madison, IN. She was born on April 14, 1940, to Richard Mahlon and Eleanor Pauline (Kelsey) Bell. Janet is a 1958 graduate of Richmond High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Hanover College and her master’s degree at Indiana University.

Janet worked as a French teacher at Greenfield-Central High School from 1974 until her retirement in 2003. While teaching, she regularly took students to France and other countries in Europe. Janet also played the organ at Greenfield Christian Church for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking one of her trademark specialties, Parker House rolls. She also enjoyed quilting, shop-hopping, card games, music, and teaching children. Janet was a member of the Red Hat Society, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and Bradley United Methodist church.

Janet is survived by her loving son, William (Donna) Bettler; granddaughter, Christina Bettler; and brothers: Jim Bell and Paul Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
