GREENFIELD — Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) recently welcomed a transitional minister after its minister retired.

The Rev. Merlyn Winters marked her first Sunday as the church’s transitional minister on June 27. She’ll reside in Greenfield and serve until permanent leadership is called. She was called from a Disciples of Christ church in Paulding, Ohio.

Winters, a graduate of Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, focused on training sessions in anti-racism, reconciliation, and legal and ethical concerns, among others. She was involved with Love INC in Ohio and is “community-minded in her approach to connecting to the church and to Greenfield,” the church said in a news release.

The Rev. Frank Everett announced his retirement earlier this year. “He shared his passion for teaching, global missions and music with the local church and community for eight years,” according to the release. He said goodbye in the May 23 service.

Everett grew up in Topeka, Kansas. He had also served in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and at congregations in Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Florida and Missouri. He earned his master’s of divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He and his wife, Nedra, reside in Greenfield.

“Greenfield Christian Church has much to celebrate in 2021,” the church said in a news release. “From returning to in-person services in the sanctuary just weeks ago to a recent pastoral transition … change is being embraced within the steadfast foundation of a building that has stood in the heart of Greenfield since the 1850s.”

All are welcome to visit the church at 10 a.m. Sundays at 23 N. East St. in Greenfield. For more information, call 317-462-6348, email [email protected], or visit the website at www.greenfieldchristian.org.
