GREENFIELD — The Hancock County 911 Center will ask the county commissioners to approve a bond sale that would pay for the installation of a new phone system for the county’s emergency dispatchers. The commissioners will likely vote on the matter at their next meeting.

The bond would be a renewal of one initiated in 2012 to fund the center’s current phone system, which is expected to be paid off by January of 2022. Renewing the bond would not introduce any new taxes.

John Jokantas, director of the 911 center, estimated the new phone system will cost about $650,000. The previous system cost about $1 million, Jokantas said, but since then the state 911 board has taken over paying for several expenses the county was required to fund for itself at that time.
