Prep Roundup: Royals’ boys, girls track teams sweep past Jets

HOPE — The Eastern Hancock boys and girls track & field teams completed the sweep over Hauser on Wednesday night.

The visiting Royals boys team won all 14-contested events to score 100 points for the victory. The girls captured 12 of the meet’s 14 events for 90 team points.

Due to lightning and darkness, the 3,200-meter run was not contested.

In the men’s meet, Zach Arnold finished first in the 100 (11.40), Cole Rainbolt won the 200 (23.90), Jayden Stine was first in the 400 (54.70), Cayden Sotelo won the 800 (2:09.00), Daniel Campbell captured the 1,600 (5:11.00), Kain Sotelo was first in the 110 hurdles (18.30) and Tyler Speer won the 300 hurdles (45.50).

Conner Knudson won the shot put competition with a throw of 43-11.00, Hunter Knudson won the discus (91-10.00), Nik Uhler was first in the high jump (5-08.00) and Rainbolt won the long jump (18-08.00).

Ashton Smith, Arnold, Rainbolt and Houston Swan won the 400-meter relay in 45.40. Smith, Arnold, Stine and Cayden Sotelo were first in the 1,600 relay (3:47.40). Campbell, Luken Edwards, Luke McCartney and Cayden Sotelo won the 3,200 relay in 9:10.00.

On the girls’ side, Sydney Springman was a triple winner, taking first in the 200 (30.50), 100 hurdles (17.20) and 300 hurdles (54.20). Chloe O’Neal won the 100 (13.50), Makenzie O’Neal finished first in the 400 (1:10.00) and Ashton Willis won the 1,600 (6:49.00).

Sydney Hayes won the discus (94-02.00), Cameron Koch was first in the high jump (4-04.00) and Makenzie O’Neal won the long jump (13-02.00).

Springman, Makenzie O’Neal, Koch and Chloe O’Neal teamed to win the 400 relay in 56.40. Alexandria Saavedra, Makenzie O’Neal, Koch and Annie Lindsay were first in the 1,600 relay (5:01.00). Maddie Engleking, Ruby White, Willis and Lexi Knight won the 3,200 relay (12:15.00).

Cougars take second in opener

The Greenfield-Central boys and girls track & field teams opened their season on Tuesday night and finished second in a tri-meet against Beech Grove and Southport.

Host Southport won the boys meet with 76 points. Beech Grove was third with 43. The Cougars’ boys tallied 52 points.

The Cougars’ girls posted 71 points to finish behind Southport (83) and ahead of Beech Grove (10).

The Cougars’ boys claimed five individual-event victories and added six runner-up finishes.

Cody Hargett set a new school record to win the pole vault competition by clearing a height of 14 feet, 8 inches. Griffen Wheeler was first in both the 1,600-meter run (4 minutes, 43 seconds) and in the 800-meter run (2:05).

Michael Runions won the 400 in 53.66, and Chris Ross took first in the 3,200 (10:37).

Greenfield-Central’s second-place finishers included: Kirk Knecht in the 100-meter dash (11.45), 200 (23.10) and in the long jump (20-06.00); Cash Looper in the 110 hurdles (18.90); Aaron Lee, Jacob Holman, Knecht and Looper in the 400 relay (46.19); and Logan Stoeffler, Logan Masters, Ian Jack and Runions in the 1,600 relay (3:44.87).

Jack finished third in the 300 hurdles (46.87) and Jacob Presser was third in the 3,200 (10:58).

The Cougars’ girls won eight events. Kayana Maroska won the 100 hurdles, Audrey Brinkruff was first in the 3,200, Kayleigh Hite won the discus, Lauren Silcox won the shot put, Reagan Crouch won the high jump and Betsy Underwood cleared 9-feet to win the pole vault.

The 3,200 relay team of Brinkruff, Gia Valenzano, Alyssa Siegel and Emma Bogle finished first. Addie Hill, Audrey Pechin, Crouch and Maroska won the 1,600 relay.

Dragons sweep Woodmen

The New Palestine boys and girls track & field teams swept a dual meet Tuesday at Greenwood.

The Dragons’ girls won 87-43, while the boys won 70-62.

Winners for the New Palestine girls were: Lexi Baynes in both the 200 and 400, Faith Hensel in the shot put, Sydney Miller in discus, Maddie Smathers in the 300 hurdles, Taylor Kelley in the 100, Courtney Study in the 800, Brenna Shaw in the 1,600 and Emma Mann in the 3,200.

Study, Emily Adam, Megan Collins and Kendall Mann won the 3,200 relay, while Shaw, Kendall Mann, Anne Bauer and Baynes won the 1,600 relay.

New Palestine boys winners were: Nick Bastian in the long jump, Sage Halter in the pole vault, A.J. Reierson in the 300 hurdles, Wes Jewell in the 400, Jaret Whitaker in the 800 and Connor Lapenta in the 3,200.

The meet came down to the 1,600 relay, which the quartet of Caleb Byers, Drew Lapenta, Whitaker and Jewell won to clinch the victory.

Whitaker, Cody Crawmer, Connor Lapenta and Ethan Galster also won the 3,200 relay.
