GREENFIELD — Don’t count your Chick-fil-A’s before they hatch.

After a Facebook page falsely claiming to be associated with the fast food chain announced a new location coming to Greenfield, the company, landowner and city government debunked the report.

The page, titled “Chick-fil-A Greenfield, Indiana,” was created on March 29 and proclaimed Chick-fil-A was bringing a location to 1882 N. State St. in Greenfield. The post quickly drew hundreds of shares and plenty of excitement, but also a considerable amount of skepticism in the comments.

Chick-fil-A’s corporate office contradicted the post in an email to the Daily Reporter.

“We are constantly evaluating potential new locations for expansion and Greenfield represents a tremendous opportunity for us to serve our customers great food with exceptional care,” Chick-fil-A, Inc. said. “At this time however, we cannot confirm any prospective locations.”

By Wednesday, March 31, the Facebook page had been removed.

Hancock Regional Hospital owns the undeveloped land at 1882 N. State St., as well as parcels to the north, south and southwest of it. The hospital hopes to one day develop a second campus there, motivated by advice to consolidate its satellite locations into one spot near Interstate 70. The hospital first spoke publicly about those plans in 2019.

Steve Long, president and CEO of Hancock Health and Hancock Regional Hospital, reiterated there are no plans for a Chick-fil-A at that location.

It may look like construction is underway on the site with all of the equipment and materials there, but that’s because the hospital is letting a contractor use it as a lay-down area for the work occurring on State Street.

Jenna Wertman, senior planner for the city of Greenfield, said there have yet to be any plans or formal filings submitted to the city for a Chick-fil-A.

“If more businesses want to come to Greenfield, we’d love to have them, but until we get a formal filing, it’s all just hope,” Wertman said.
