HANCOCK COUNTY — A McCordsville man has been accused of multiple sex crimes involving a teenage girl after she told police about an incident from earlier this year involving inappropriate contact.

Brendan Patrick Brown, 20, McCordsville, is facing five felony charges and one misdemeanor count after police were informed he had sent a nude photo of himself to the girl and then later inappropriately touched her.

McCordsville officials learned about the incident from an Indiana Department of Child Services report, a probable cause affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, Brown first sent the girl the photo via Snapchat in late March. When he saw the girl the next day, he asked her inappropriate questions about the photo.

Brown is then accused of exposing and touching himself before inappropriately touching the girl, the affidavit said. The victim told officials the incident occurred Saturday, March 28, at her home. She was interviewed in April, according to the report.

Brown, who was 19 at the time of the incident, told investigators he had mistakenly sent the photo of himself to the girl. He came in contact with her only after he inadvertently fell on her while playing with a dog, he told investigators, according to the affidavit.

Brown has officially been charged with a Level 3 felony count of child molesting; a Level 4 felony count of child molesting; a Level 5 felony count of child solicitation; a Level 6 felony count of performing sexual contact in the presence of a minor; a Level 6 felony count of strangulation, and a Class B misdemeanor charge of inappropriate communication with a child. The most serious charge carries a sentence of anywhere from three to 16 years in prison.

Brown was taken into custody by McCordsville officers and was booked into the Hancock County Jail on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Judge Scott Sirk, presiding in Hancock County Circuit Court, set a $20,000 cash bond during a hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 12 and also put a no-contact order in place.
