FORTVILLE — The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation (MVEF) announces the 2019-2020 Mt. Vernon Teachers of the Year (TOY) and Staff of the Year (SOY). The winners were originally nominated by their colleagues, and then the top three were voted on by staff in each building.

Each nominee was rated on the following criteria: dedication, teamwork, caring demeanor, student-centeredness, being a life-long learner, and classroom innovation. The building winners then submitted an application to the MVEF TOY/SOY committee, who will use the Indiana Department of Education’s TOY rubric to evaluate each building winner and determine the overall MVCSC TOY and SOY.

The winners will be announced at the MVEF Gala on August 8.

Teacher of the Year awards on the building level were presented to: Krista Weber (Fortville Elementary); Erin Hardin (McCordsville Elementary); Ashley Schenck (Mt. Comfort Elementary); Lauren Reifel (Mt. Vernon Middle School); Karen Riesterer (Mt. Vernon High School); Ashley Ridenour (Administration Building).

Staff of the Year awards went to: Veronica Kirby (Fortville Elementary); Emily Snider (McCordsville Elementary); Laura Lyons (Mt. Comfort Elementary); Stephanie Evans (Mt. Vernon Middle School); Lisa Tappy (Mt. Vernon High School); Lisa Heitman (Administration Building).
