The Greenfield-Central girls swimming and diving team had little trouble against the Shelbyville Golden Bears on Thursday.

The Cougars won 10 events led by Megan Coffin, who highlighted the night by breaking the school record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.24 to win.

Coffin added a win in the 200 medley relay along with Mary Ellen Stratman, Norah Johnson and Anne Marie DeKeyser.

Ariel Niemeier won the 200 free and was part of the winning 200 free relay. DeKeyser was first in the 50 free and 100 free, while Reagan Crouch won the diving competition and was part of the 200 free relay.

Stratman won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Johnson took first in the 100 breaststroke.

Dragons dominate

on Senior Night

The New Palestine girls swimming and diving team defeated Connersville 118-57 for an impressive Senior Night win at the Dragons pool, Thursday.

It was the team’s second straight victory. On Jan. 14, the Dragons defeated host Beech Grove, 108-70.

Winners on Senior Night included; Sydni Wilson (200 Medley Relay), Lillie Poag (200 Medley Relay), Samantha Booe (200 Medley Relay), Arielle Poynter (200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay), Katelyn Trimpe (50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Karen Shriver (1-meter diving), Bailey Young (500 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Moriah Corey (200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Kyleigh Turner (100 backstroke), Claire Whisler (400 Freestyle Relay).

Shriver broke her scoring record for the second straight meet, totaling 222.25.

New Palestine beats Connersville at home

New Palestine won for the second straight time, defeating visiting Connersville 118-65 on Senior Night at the New Palestine pool, Thursday.

Dragon winners were; Kyle Ellis (200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle Relay), Colin Stacey (1-meter diving), Chase Siler (200 IM, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Freestyle Relay), Damon Estes (100 Butterfly), Ben Miesse (200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Eli Kleine (200 Freestyle Relay), Jack Schwartz (200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay), Quincy Shirk (100 Backstroke), Chase Martin (400 Freestyle Relay).

The team was coming off a 131-51 win, taking first place in 11 of 12 events, at Beech Grove on Jan. 14.

Cougars finish

with strong victory

The Greenfield-Central boys swimming and diving team finished up its regular-season schedule on Thursday with 144-40 victory over Shelbyville.

Travis Black made a statement by breaking his own 50-yard freestyle record by swimming a 20.60 second race to win the event.

Sam Jennings was first in the 200 free, 500 free and joined Black, Anthony Nagel and Sammy Logan on the winning 200 free and 400 free relays.

Nagel was first in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Kien Dalton won the diving competition and Logan was first in the 100 butterfly. The Cougars also won the 200 medley relay.

Gymnastics

New Pal opens season in Columbus

The New Palestine gymnastics team competed in its home opener Thursday, falling to Columbus North 110.25-100.4.

The Dragons were led by Grace Shanahan, who was fourth in the all-around with a score of 34.4. Kennedy Garrett was fifth (33.2).

On vault, Shanahan placed fourth (8.7) and Garrett sixth (8.35). Shanahan was third on bars (8.7), while Alyse Rickey finished sixth (8.025).

Garrett scored 9.0 on balance beam to finish fourth. Shanahan’s 8.4 placed fifth. Garrett’s 8.4 on floor exercise placed fifth. Addie Halter was sixth with 8.35.

Wrestling

Dragons win on senior night

The New Palestine wrestling team knocked off Greenwood 42-33 for a senior night victory Thursday.

Winners for the Dragons were Jack Rossell, Christian White, Logan Nelson, Eli Hook, Richard Clevenger, Will Olive and Tucker Keevers.

Cougars take down Hornets on the road

The Greenfield-Central wrestling team swatted the Beech Grove Hornets 57-9 on Thursday night.

The Cougars won 11 contested matches with six coming by pin.

Kenny Thompson (152 pounds), Scott Stanley (195), Dakota Herald (106), Cohen Hager (113), Zeke Holden (120), Josh VanOsdol (126) and Matt Torres (145) each won by fall.

Chase Gardner (182) won his match by decision 7-3, Jacob Blevens (285) scored an 11-4 decision, Matt Wickham (132) won by decision 10-6 and Dylan Dorman (138) recorded a 7-1 decision.
