INDIANAPOLIS —Help honor the activism, leadership and volunteer work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as several Indianapolis tourism sites offer free admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 20.
The Indiana Historical Society, 450 W. Ohio St., hosts a free day of special programs and performances. The daylong celebration takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. offering opportunities to learn about civil rights, Madam C. J. Walker’s activism and hear the Griot Drum Ensemble. The Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St., will also offer free admission and special activities from museum staff and community partners throughout the museum. Visitors can also explore the entire museum for free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including the museum’s permanent galleries and the museum’s newest experience, Rube Goldberg™: The World of Hilarious Invention!, opening Jan. 18. Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road in Fishers, offers a full day of interactive events including the Tree of Dreams where visitors can add their own dreams inspired by Dr. King’s famous speech. Mr. Daniel will be on hand to teach peaceful protest songs, and attendees can role-play in the Anything Can Happen Theater.
