The senior standout, headed to Valparaiso Unviersity, was a do-it-all setter for an outstanding Marauders’ club. Along with being Hancock County’s top player, Bulmahn was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region team and to the Class 4A All-District Central team. She leaves MVHS as its all-time leader in assists with 2,371.

Ava Antic

Greenfield-Central junior, outside hitter

She ranked No. 3 in the county in total kills with 277 and also showed her defensive prowess with 243 digs. She was one of only three players (including Mt. Vernon’s Cecilia Bulmahn and Claire Ertel) in the county with over 200 kills and 200 digs.

Cecilia Bulmahn

Mt. Vernon sophomore, outside hitter

Averaging 3.9 kills per set, the super sophomore was the county’s leading attacker. To go with her high kill numbers, she had 385 total for the season, and she was accurate, too. Bulmahn had a .330 attack percentage and 44.9 kill percentage. She also had 283 digs.

Claire Ertel

Mt. Vernon junior, outside hitter

Ertel was Hancock County’s only player to total over 300 kills and 300 digs. She finished her junior year with 306 kills, and her 380 digs were second on the Marauders team. She finished third in the county in service aces with 55.

Grace Myers

New Palestine sophomore, libero

Myers led all county players in digs, and by a large margin. The defensive specialist averaged 5.4 digs per set. Mt. Vernon’s Sophie Schultz was second at 4.4. For the season, Myers had 471 digs on the year and was one of her team’s top servers with 32 service aces.

Sophie Schultz

Mt. Vernon senior, defensive specialist

Schultz’s defense and ability to get the ball to setter Victoria Bulmahn was huge for the success of the 2019 Marauders. She finishes her career with 968 digs, including 400-plus in each of the last two seasons. She was second on the Marauders with 45 aces.

Olivia Yeley

Mt. Vernon junior, middle blocker

The 6-footer was the county’s top blocker, totaling 88 for the season. She picked things up on the offensive end, too, giving Victoria Bulmahn an extra option to go with pin hitters Cecilia Bulmahn and Claire Ertel. Yeley hit .372 on the year with a team-best kill percentage of 46.1.

Honorable mention:

Eastern Hancock — Lili Hunt; Greenfield-Central –Morgan Hornaday, Marissa Grigsby, Makayla Price,; Mt. Vernon — Rachel Pilkington, Lillie Perdue; New Palestine — Sarah Adam, Jesi Hall, Kaelyn Armstrong.

Coach of the Year

Eric Bulmahn, Mt. Vernon

The veteran coach continues to put the Marauders near the top of the map among the state’s elite volleyball programs. His club’s No. 5 state Z-rating is the highest the program has ever had. This year’s team had two school-record 11-match winning streaks.
