Indy Shorts International Film Festival returns to Newfields

The Indy Shorts Film Festival is the Midwest's largest short film event.

INDIANAPOLIS — Heartland Film will present the second annual Indy Shorts International Film Fest July 25 through 28 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, 4000 Michigan Road.

Indy Shorts, the largest short film festival in the Midwest, will screen more than 100 short films 40 minutes or less in length at 11 venues around the city. Films shown at Indy Shorts are eligible to qualify for the Academy Awards. A finalist from last year’s festival, “Period. End of Sentence,” went on to win the 2019 Academy Award® for Best Documentary Short.

Indy Shorts will bestow $30,000 in cash prizes across multiple categories including Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Animated Short, High School Film Competition, Indiana Spotlight Competition, Best Student Film Award and Audience Choice Awards in the Narrative, Documentary, Animated and Indiana Spotlight categories.

Winners of the film festival will be featured at Heartland International Film Festival in October.
