Softball

Marauders blank Delta

Mt. Vernon improved to 9-1 on the year with a 7-0 win against Delta on Monday.

Karlee Franklin got the complete-game shutout, allowing no runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Mt. Vernon had 13 hits in the game. Anelise Worden, Macy Griner, Samantha Bennett, Chloee Yocum and Haley Kissee all managed multiple hits. Worden led Mt. Vernon with three hits in four at-bats.

Royals get shutout win

Eastern Hancock shut out Alexandria on Monday, picking up an 8-0 win to improve to 5-2-1 on the season.

Maddie Turner threw a complete game on the mound, allowing just three hits. 

The Royals jumped ahead early as Bailey Stephens, Megan Bever and Caroline Stapleton scored in the first inning. Eastern Hancock loaded the bases in a few innings, adding to their lead and pulling away for the win.

Wes-Del bests Royals

Eastern Hancock fell behind early and couldn’t catch up to Wes-Del, falling 8-2 on Monday.

The Royals got two hits each from Wyatt Sutton and Ryan Burris. Trey Brown had the team’s lone RBI on a double.

Jakob Harris, Chris Craney and Landon Stanley combined to allow 10 hits, striking out six while walking four. They allowed three earned runs, as the Royals had three fielding errors in the game.

Cougars top Yorktown

Greenfield-Central picked up a win Monday in the first make-up game from Friday’s canceled doubleheader, topping Yorktown 9-1.

The Cougars improved to 6-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with the win.

Boys golf

Marauders top Cougars

Greenfield-Central and Mt. Vernon squared off on the golf course Monday, with the Marauders besting their county rivals, 153 to 166.

John Husar took medalist honors for the Marauders with a 36. Sam McWilliams, Haiden Rose and Elijah Dunham all had a 39. Blake Johnson added 40.

The Cougars were led by a 37 from Kyle Arrowood and 38 from Noah Mohler. Zach Archer came in next with a 44 and Matt Kaser finished out the scoring with a 47.

Girls tennis

Marauders top Alexandria

Mt. Vernon won a battle of ranked District 7 teams on Monday, besting Alexandria 6-1 in a four singles, three doubles format match.

Lydia Ruegsegger was dominant at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Kaleigh Helm picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 2. Louisa Batge won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.

Mt. Vernon won at all three doubles positions. The No. 1 team of Maeve Laughlin and Alexis Lane won 6-4, 6-4. The No. 2 team of Lexi Shelton/Beth Hodgin won 6-4, 6-1, and the No. 3 team of Hanna Smith and Cecilia Buhlman won 6-3, 6-1 in their first varsity match.

Royals lose to Tri

Eastern Hancock fell to 3-3 on the season with a 5-0 loss Monday to Tri.

The Royals took one match to three sets, at No. 3 singles. Corina Jennings fought hard but eventually lost, falling 2-6, 6-1, 1-6.
