Why are you the best candidate for this position?

My wife, Haley (Wilson), and I are raising our three children in Fortville. As an attorney of 13 years, I practiced municipal, real estate, criminal and civil law. As a real estate and economic development professional, I have worked on projects and initiatives worth over $800 million while I worked as the deputy director of the Anderson Economic Development and Redevelopment Department and the deputy director of the Carmel Redevelopment Department. I worked to connect with small businesses and entrepreneurs to help start and grow their businesses and coordinated and managed large public-private projects.

What is the most pressing issue facing Fortville?

Managing growth and development in a smart, controlled way, so we have a firm foundation for our future. Fortunately, with public input during a process started in 2013, the town developed a Comprehensive Plan to guide our growth and development. Also, with public input, the town has developed more specific plans for the Broadway/State Road 67 corridor and for an extension of the Fortville business park.

What is your stance on the changes proposed for Main Street?

The Main Street pedestrian safety project is a necessary repair and upgrade to heavily used public sidewalks and roadway that will make our town safer and more accessible for everyone. My biggest concern is not something that the town has control over: how landlords/property owners are overestimating what their properties are worth (rent or sale price), which can result in stagnating economic growth. Fortunately, the town has great property owners who invest in Fortville, like Elite Beverages, who see our potential. I hope more will take a longer, more sustainable view of economic growth that benefits the entire community.

How does the town responsibly manage the rapid growth it’s experiencing?

By planning for the growth that is coming and sticking with our Comprehensive Plan that was put together by residents of Fortville, we stay ahead of the curve and make decisions proactively rather than reacting to developers and builders. Also, design standards will ensure that the development that is built will be quality that will last. We also need to plan what roads, pipes, sewers, water plants, drainage, etc. will be needed in the future so we can remain fiscally sound while meeting the needs of the people who live and work in Fortville.
