Why are you the best candidate for this position?

I am fair and honest. I will listen to concerns and help make the best decision for my community. I’d be a good addition to the team currently serving because I am positive, energetic, understanding and committed. I am involved in numerous organizations that give back to the community: Psi Iota Xi sorority, Policy Circle, Fortville-Vernon Township Library Board, co-creator of the Main Street Arts at the Carnegie Library, co-organizer of Art Battle and small-business owner of StoreHouse on Main Street. Fortville has my heart, and I believe we can all work together for the betterment of our town.

What is the most pressing issue facing Fortville?

My campaign slogan is “Committed to Community Dedicated to Progress.” The biggest challenge for our community is the fear of growth. No one knows what is coming or how it will look, which has caused a lot of people to not want the growth, while others are excited and embrace the change. The challenge is trying to work with both sides while continuing to improve our community.

What is your stance on the changes proposed for Main Street?

We are fortunate to have the funding set aside to be able to have the work done at no cost to the residents. We need the sidewalks repaired, better lighting and safer crosswalks. I think there should be more of a concern for the empty buildings and boarded windows on Main Street that don’t get rented due to high rental fees.

How does the town responsibly manage the rapid growth it’s experiencing?

Fortunately, the town council and town manager have been prepared for the growth and began working on this years ago. Funding is in place so the town won’t go in debt over the projects. Grants are being utilized and sought after to continue to improve our infrastructure. The Parks and Recreation department has funding donated through private donors and the Optimist Club to make improvements and add new attractions. I’m impressed the town has managed to not burden the citizens by being so fiscally responsible.
