Home sales drop, but prices still rising

HANCOCK COUNTY — Fewer Hancock County homes sold year-over-year in March, while home sale prices and inventory continues to increase, monthly real estate statistics indicate.

Only 137 single-family houses and condominiums sold in March, compared to 153 in March 2018 — a decrease of 10.5 percent, according to data compiled by the F.C. Tucker Co. That’s close to the same rate as Johnson and Hamilton counties, but much higher than Madison and Hendricks counties.

Fewer homes sold in 14 of the 15 central Indiana counties F.C. Tucker tracks compared to March 2018. In March 2019, 3,615 Central Indiana homes were purchased, down from 4,240 sold in March 2018.

Active home listings did increase from 165 to 201 between March 2018 and March 2019 in Hancock County, as did the average sale price. Hancock County homes — priced around $204,616 in March 2018 — sold on average for $212,718 in March 2019, higher than 10 of the 15 central Indiana counties in the study.
