McCordsville board OKs economic development area

McCORDSVILLE — The McCordsville Redevelopment Commission recently approved the creation of an area meant to foster economic development on the town’s south side. The site includes about 440 acres along Mt. Comfort Road between County Roads 500N and 650N.

Commission members discussed how creating the area signals to developers that town officials are aware of the corridor’s potential. They said the area also gives the town flexibility when it comes to offering incentives to interested developers, whether it be via tax abatements or tax increment financing funds.

Officials and their attorney stressed that creating the area does not allow the town to take private land within the area’s boundaries.

McCordsville’s town council and advisory plan commission must approve the area before it goes into effect.

INDIANAPOLIS — Girl Scouts of Central Indiana has appointed two Hancock County residents to its 2019 board of directors.
