Concert from mission school to perform

NEW PALESTINE — The Cardinal Singers will be in concert at 7 p.m. April 28 at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 S. CR 500W.

The ensemble is from Red Bird Christian School in Beverly, Kentucky. The concert is is part of an annual Spring Tour that will stop in Indiana and Illinois this year.

The concert will include vocal music, drama, and a 24-member dulcimer ensemble.

In addition to the musical program, a small display of traditional Appalachian crafts produced in the area of Red Bird Mission will be available for purchase. Everyone is invited to this free concert of contemporary and traditional Christian music.

Red Bird Mission is a National Mission Institution in covenant with the United Methodist Women located in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. The mission serves the needs of families through programs including a preK-12 school with approximately 230 students.

Group of churches offers scholarship

NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine Fellowship of CHurches will give a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who attends or is a member or constituent of one of the churches affiliated with the Fellowship.

Applications are available in church offices or the guidance office at New Palestine High School. They may be turned in there as well.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and show evidence of enrollment. They do not have to attend New Palestine High School.

Selection criteria include participation in church activities, community involvement and scholarship, with special emphasis on the statement of faith in daily life.

Applications are due before May 1.

The churches in the fellowship are Community Christian Church, New Palestine Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), New Palestine United Church (His Place) on U.S. 52, and New Palestine United Methodist Church on Gem Road.

Concert has music, dramatic readings

KNIGHTSTOWN — “Christopher and Robin in Concert,” including music and dramatic readings, is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 112 S. Franklin St., Knightstown. It’s part pf the Bethel Arts Series.

Performing will be Chris Sitler and Robin Richey from Knightstown, both of whom have performed throughout Central Indiana for many years.

A free-will offering will be received for the performers.

St. Thomas offers meatless meals

FORTVILLE — St. Thomas is serving meatless meals from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays of Lent in the parish activity center.

Remaining menus will be:

April 5 — Fried fish, macaroni and cheese and lasagna

April 7 — Tuna salad on croissants, baked pasta and egg salad

Meals include assorted vegetables, salad, desserts and drink.

A free-will offering is taken for all meals but the fish fries.

Fish fry meals cost $7 each.

Dinner to help family after fire

NEW PALESTINE — A dinner to benefit the Spurling family, following a Feb. 8 house fire at their home, is set for 5 p.m. Saturday (March 30) at New Palestine United Church, 15 E. Main St. (U.S. 52).

The Stoner Sisters, Dennis Carnes and Nina Dean will sing starting at 6.

Donations will be accepted at the dinner.

Game Night is today

GREENFIELD — Faith United Methodist Church will have Game Night from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday (March 30) at the church, 328 N. Swope St. Finger foods will be served.

Spring Fling to raise money for new roof

NEW PALESTINE — Zion United Church of Christ, 8916 E. Troy Ave., Indianapolis, plans a fundraiser for a new roof on its community education building.

Raise the Roof Spring Fling is set for 6 to 11 p.m. April 12 at Adaggios Banquet Hall and Conference Center, 5999 W. Memory Lane, Greenfield.

The evening will include live and silent auctions with dinner and dancing.

Some of the live auction packages include trips in the United States and abroad, cruises and bucket list adventures.

A wide variety of items in the silent auction include a private wine tasting for 25, sports tickets, gourmet baskets, collectibles and family fun packs.

Tickets cost $30 for people 15 and older and $22.95 for people 14 and younger.

Baked potato bar to aid youth trip

NEW PALESTINE — Youth at New Palestine United Methodist Church will have a baked potato bar fundraiser from 5 to 6:30 p.m. (or until potatoes run out) April 18 at the church, 3565 S. County Road 500W.

All proceeds benefit the Rooted youth group’s activities and mission trip.

A Maundy Thursday service follows at 7 p.m.

Simulcast features Priscilla Shirer

NEW PALESTINE — Community Christian Church will show the Going Beyond Simulcast with Priscilla Shirer from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 6 at the church, 3123 S. County Road 500W.

Along with Priscilla Shirer, a well-known Bible teacher, Christian recording artist Anthony Evans will lead worship via simulcast.

Cost is $20. A prepared lunch is available for $10, or you can do lunch on your own.

FORTVILLE — Fortville United Methodist Church’s Lenten soup series concludes Wednesday.

The gathering runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall of the church, 125 E. Staat St. Vocalist Bob Guajardo will share music.

Lenten series has courtroom theme

GREENFIELD — St. James Lutheran Church will have Lenten meals and services on April 3 and April 10.

The meal begins at 6 p.m., followed by the service at 7 at the church, 1741 S. State St.

The church’s series for Lent is “Convicted” and steps into the courtroom each week. Each service puts a different biblical person from the story of Christ’s passion and death on trial, accused of an actual crime.

Spud Supper to aid mission projects

GREENFIELD — Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church at 3447 South State Road 9, Greenfield, will have its annual Spud Supper from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday (March 30). Several potato toppings, salads, hot dogs, desserts, and drinks will be available. Carry-out is an option. A free-will offering will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit mission and special projects.

Good Friday service set in Shirley

SHIRLEY — Community Ministerial Alliance, a group of Shirley-area churches, will have a community Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. April 19 at Grant City Wesleyan Church, 4411 S. Grant City Road, Shirley.
