Girls basketball

Royals end season

Eastern Hancock picked up a victory in its final regular season game of the year, besting Tri at home Thursday, 42-38.

Jocelyn Duncan led the Royals with 14 points. Aly Spaudling had seven points and seven rebounds, Jenna Smith had seven points, four rebounds and four assists, and Haley Best had eight points, four assists and four steals.

The Royals finish the season 12-10 and fourth in the MEC. They play next on Tuesday at Shenandoah against Irvington Prep Academy.

Cougars fall to Avon

Greenfield-Central lost a close contest to Avon on Thursday, falling 40-35 on the road.

Leading the Cougars was Hannah Farrell with 11 points. Crystal Peterson added nine, Lydia McIntire had seven, Keryna Barrett had four, and both Brooke Herrell and Addie Hill contributed two.

The Cougars finish 9-13 on the year and fifth in the HHC. They play Richmond on Tuesday in the Mt. Vernon sectional.

Marauders finish strong

Mt. Vernon finished tied for second in the HHC with a win against Delta on Thursday, 43-31.

The Marauders pulled away in the third quarter, when the defense held the Eagles to just two points.

With the win, Mt. Vernon finished 17-5 on the season and 5-2 in the HHC. They open sectional play at home Tuesday against Connersville.

Swimming

Mt. Vernon sweeps meet

Mt. Vernon hosted Cathedral on Thursday, picking up a 129-46 win for the girls and a 134-41 win for the boys on Senior Night.

The Marauders girls take place in sectional action Thursday and Saturday, while the boys have one more meet against Yorktown before beginning their sectional.

gymnastics

Dragons finish second

New Palestine was second in a four-team meet Thursday at Roncalli, tallying 95.6 points to finish second to host Roncalli (97.25). New Palestine finished ahead of Lutheran (58.225) and Scecina (56.15).

The Dragons won two events and had their best performance on the floor exercise, where Grace Shanahan won with an 8.625 score.

Kennedy Garrett won the vault (8.625). On bars, Shanahan was second (8.225). On beam, Garrett placed third (8.125).

Shanahan finished second in the all-around (32.6) for the Dragons.
