Dragons fall to top team

COLUMBUS — New Palestine was no match for one of the top gymnastics teams in the state as they fell to Columbus North 107.775-96.05 on Thursday.

“Tonight we threw in some new skills,” New Palestine coach Debbie Bruns said. “We have a few injuries, so we felt like we should come in and use it as a training meet even though we had two meets we did really well at.”

Grace Shanahan was top performer for the Dragons, finishing third in the all-around with a score of 33.6. She placed second in the uneven bars (8.525), fourth in the floor exercise (8.8), sixth on the balance beam (8.125) and tenth in the vault (8.15).

Kennedy Garrett had a couple of top-five finishes for the Dragons, placing fifth in the vault (8.4) and the balance beam (8.2). She finished eighth in the all-around (30.875).

Alyse Rickey tied for sixth in the vault (8.35) and finished seventh in the uneven bars (7.15) and finished ninth in the all-around (29.9). Anna Greiner finished eighth in floor exercise (7.8) and ninth on the balance beam (7.7). Emma Poag placed ninth on the vault (8.325) and Sarah Thompson was ninth in the floor exercise (7.675).

The Dragons are next in action Saturday at New Castle, weather permitting.
