GREENFIELD — Hancock County plans to spend nearly $48,000 next year to lease seven vehicles through Enterprise-Rent-A-Car.

The county commissioners on Tuesday agreed to seven contracts for new sheriff’s department and community corrections vehicles. The county aims to save money on yearly maintenance through Enterprise’s fleet management pilot program, commissioner president Brad Armstrong said.

Community corrections will purchase two 2019 Chevrolet Traverses on 48-month leases, totaling $1,208 in monthly costs, and a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck at a price of $597 a month for 12 months. The county also approved the sheriff’s department to lease two 2019 F-150s for 12 months at $1,203 each payment, as well as four-year terms on a 2019 Traverse for $531 a month and a 2019 Ford Taurus for $434 a month.

The contracts also include maintenance costs for routine upkeep, such as oil changes, and any fixes to vehicle transmissions, engines and electrical systems. Armstrong said he hopes the lease program will save Hancock County money each year and allow departments to spend funds on vehicles more efficiently.

Enterprise will sell seven current community corrections and sheriff’s department vehicles and use the trade-in value toward the lease of the new cars, Armstrong said. At the end of each lease, the county can either extend the lease, buy the vehicle or have Enterprise sell the car and purchase a new leased vehicle.
