GREENFIELD — Local author Kurt Vetters will launch his second Civil War novel, “Freedom Spring,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Twenty North Gallery, 20-A N. State St. The book chronicles the closing days of the Civil War from the perspective of a newly-free slave. A veteran, Captain Vetters served in tank battalions and cavalry squadrons during his 10-year career in the U.S. Army. He writes a regular column, primarily focused on veterans affairs, for the Greenfield Daily Reporter. CUMBERLAND — Cumberland celebrates the holidays and its German heritage with the 8th annual Weihnachtsmarkt, Sat. from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Cumberland’s town center, at 11501 E. Washington St. The event includes food, entertainment, a large vendor tent, a kids tent with face painting, a scavenger hunt and reindeer games. Be there for the town Christmas tree lighting, visit with Santa, sip some hot cocoa, take a carriage ride around Old Town Cumberland and end the night with a free concert featuring The Flying Toasters.
