HANCOCK COUNTY — County veterans’ organizations are stepping up to help replace a van used by the local Disabled American Veterans group.

The van, which provides some 160 round trips to disabled veterans from Hancock County to the Veterans Administration hospital in Indianapolis, is nearing 100,000 miles, and the organization is required to trade it in at that point, said Hancock County veterans service officer and Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard commander Robert Workman. Some $15,000 to $20,000 is needed to go toward the purchase of a new van.

New Palestine American Legion Post #182 jump-started the fundraising with a donation of $6,000.
