Sale to raise money to benefit hungry

FORTVILLE — The second annual Harvest of Talents is set for 9 to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at Fortville Christian Church, 9450 N. County Road 200W, Fortville.

Proceeds benefit International Disaster Emergency Service’s hunger relief programs.

Shoppers will find a wealth of decorative items, such as painted signs, fabric snowmen, garden rocks, Christmas ornaments and more. Hangers will be sold in bundles. Acts of service, such as baking cinnamon buns or doing yard work, can also be offered for sale at the Harvest.

Themed gift baskets will be up for bids until 1:30 p.m. in a silent auction. Larger items such as furniture will be part of a live auction at 2:30 p.m.

The day also features food: biscuits and gravy at 9 a.m., walking tacos at 10:30 a.m. and pulled pork sandwiches at 11:30 a.m.

A new church cookbook with more than 500 recipes will also be for sale. Cookbook sale proceeds will not go to the Harvest but will support the church’s work in the Dominican Republic.

GriefShare starting at Zion Lutheran

NEW PALESTINE — GriefShare at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine is scheduled to take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays from Aug. 30 to Dec. 6.

Those in need can attend an orientation session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the church, 6513 W. County Road 300 S.

GriefShare is a weekly video seminar featuring renowned experts on grief recovery topics.

Each seminar is combined with a small group discussion time to allow participants to talk about the seminar and how they are dealing with the death of a loved one.

AWANA to start at Greenfield church

GREENFIELD — A new year of AWANA will begin Sept. 10 at Hancock Reformed Baptist Church, 944 E. Davis Road, Greenfield.

Sessions run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, from September through March, and include a Bible message, Scripture memorization, games and awards for each child’s achievements.

Children are encouraged to bring 50 cents a week to help pay for teaching material, and there are minimal costs for shirts or vests, but assistance is available.

Church after-school program starts soon

MT. COMFORT — Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church’s after-school program begins on Sept. 13.

“SonShine Kids” meets on Thursdays when Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. is in session.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be offered enrichment classes including art, nature and drama.

The afternoon includes a snack, interactive exercise and homework assistance.

Applications are available at the front offices of Mt. Comfort Elementary School and the church. The church is located at 3179 N. County Road 600W.

Love INC plans 5K, church expo

GREENFIELD — The Love Runs Deep 5K Run/Walk is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 22 on the Pennsy Trail.

A Kids’ Dash for ages 12 and younger starts at 9:15. There is no cost to children to participate.

The 5K begins at 9:30. Registration is $25 per person or $100 for a team of five. A free T-shirt and sling bag will be available for participants 13 and older who register by Tuesday (Sept. 4).

Bazaar looks ahead to Christmas

NEW PALESTINE — The United Methodist Women at New Palestine United Methodist Church will have their annual 94 Days Until Christmas Craft & Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22 at the church, 3565 S. County Road 500W (Gem Road).
