Police: Pair were “major source of narcotics”

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Police Department detectives arrested two suspected drug dealers following a traffic stop and the subsequent search of an house last week. They say evidence recovered during the investigation suggests the pair “were a major source of narcotics throughout central Indiana,” according to a news release.

A neighbor contacted police Thursday to say “there has been a lot of people coming and going from” a house in the 2700 block of Bluestone Drive in Greenfield. These people only stayed at the house for a short period of time, the witness said, according to court documents.

Additionally, the neighbor saw a man who lived in the house removing the rear bumper and floor boards from a car outside, court documents state.

Narcotics detectives spent the day monitoring the residence.

When they saw the male suspect leave the house in a small SUV on Thursday, the patrol officers stopped the car, court documents state.

The driver, Nicholas Tourville, 36, of Greenfield had a warrant for his arrest out of Florida. There, he’d been accused of dealing narcotics, according to a news release.

Search warrants were obtained for the car and the house.

A police K-9 aided in the vehicle search, and indicated drugs were hidden inside the car, court documents state.

Police found 31 grams of cocaine hidden in the car, court documents state.

Tourville was taken to the Hancock County Jail. He faces: one Level 2 felony count of dealing cocaine; one Level 3 felony count of possession of cocaine; and one Level 6 felony count of maintaining a common nuisance.

In the house, officers located methamphetamine, Xanax, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a handgun with the serial numbers filed off of it, police said.

Officers also located a large trash can with a white powder residue in a bathroom suggesting that additional narcotics were destroyed while officers were executing the search warrant, according to the news release.

Diana Stewart, 35, who lived in the house and was home when police arrived, was detained and eventually transported to the Hancock County Jail, police said.

She faces: one Level 3 felony count of dealing methamphetamine; one Level 5 felony count of possession of methamphetamine; one Level 5 felony count of possession of an altered handgun; one Level 6 felony count of possession of a controlled substance; one Level 6 felony count of maintaining a common nuisance; one Class B misdemeanor of possession of marijuana; and one Class C misdemeanor of possession of paraphernalia.

Charges against the pair were filed by prosecutors Friday. Both appeared in court Friday afternoon. They have pleaded not guilty.

Jury trials in both cases have been set tentatively for February, records show.
