Marauders top Tipton, improve to 2-0
Mt. Vernon got its second win of the season Thursday, topping Tipton 7-1.
Alexi Hardie led the way with four goals and an assist. Shay Shipley had two goals, Katie Gawrys had a goal and an assist and Riley Hurst had an assist.
The Marauders outshot Tipton 39 to 7. Jaici Wright had six saves and stopped a penalty kick in the victory.
Tennis
Mt. Vernon dominates with 5-0 sweep
Mt. Vernon traveled to Franklin Central on Thursday and rolled to a dominant 5-0 victory.
JD Cohee won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Reece Powell won 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Sam McCarty won 6-0, 6-4.
The Marauders No. 1 doubles team of Peyton Meadors and Braeden Browing won 6-2, 6-3, and the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Frye and Jackson Dunlavy won 6-3, 6-1.
Volleyball
Eastern Hancock falls in 4 sets
Eastern Hancock had its first loss of the season Thursday, falling to Cambridge City Lincoln 3-1 at home, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-11.
The Royals were led by Jenna Smith’s nine kills and three aces. Freshman Lili Hunt added eight kills, nine digs and four assists. Kayla Fancher had six kills, an ace and 15 digs.
Paige Wickard led the Royals with 14 assists and Haley Best led the way with 21 digs.

Soccer
Dragons score 9 while routing Triton
The New Palestine girls soccer team routed Triton Central 9-1 on Wednesday in a rainy home opener for the Dragons.
Olivia Lambdin scored twice and Maddy Miller assisted on three goals in the victory, including both of Lambdin’s goals.
Megan Jolly gave the Dragons an early 1-0 lead on an assist from Grace Miller. Lambdin followed with her first goal. Maddy Miller then assisted on a goal by Lucy Miller before a goal by Victoria Crowder and Lambdin’s second.
Rhiana Brown scored her first career varsity goal late in the first half to put the Dragons up 6-0. Olivia Murphy also scored her first career goal on an assist from Avery Biggs in the second half. An own goal and a tally by Haley Weinrich added up to the 9-1 victory.
Volleyball
Cougars get sweep against Westfield
Greenfield-Central squared off against Westfield on Wednesday and came away with a three-set sweep, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17. The win moves the Cougars to 3-0 on the season.
The Cougars were led by Ava Antic’s 10 kills and 10 digs and Molly Broome’s 22 assists, 10 digs and four blocks. Makayla Price added seven kills, Macy Francis and Hannah Burkhart had 10 digs, Molly Schwarzkopf had seven blocks and Haleigh Pribble added four blocks.
Broome was named an AVCA/MaxPreps player of the week and Pribble, Antic and Price were named to the IHSVCA 2018 Watch List.
