GREENFIELD — A 17-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting another teen, and he now faces criminal charges in adult court, records show.

Cameron Combs, 1434 Hedge Court, Greenfield, faces three Level 3 felony counts of rape. Each charge carries a potential penalty of up to 16 years in prison.

Combs is accused of forcing himself on a girl during a party that followed a high school dance earlier this year, according to court documents.

A girl told police she visited Combs’ home in the spring, where they drank alcohol and listened to music with a few other friends.

The girl said she told Combs she was tired and wanted to lie down; and he directed her to a bedroom she believed was for guests, but later learned was his.

She fell asleep. But Combs eventually came into the room and woke her, trying to kiss her, she told police, according to court documents.

The girl said she told Combs she didn’t feel comfortable and asked him to stop touching her, court documents state.

But Combs forced himself on her, even as she tried to resist him, the girl told police, according to court documents.

The girl confided in a family member the next day, and the relative reported the incident to police. The girl visited the Madison County Sexual Assault Treatment Center in Anderson to be examined by nurses there, according to court documents.

Prosecutors filed the charges against Combs late last week. He was arrested Monday, and was in the Hancock County Jail for about two hours before posting a $7,500 cash bond, records show.

Typically charges brought against those under the age of 18 are filed as juvenile-delinquent charges and then handled by the local probation department. If law enforcement feels the allegations are severe enough, they can petition a judge to waive the child into adult court.

But state law stipulates that certain allegations, when brought against a child 16 or older, should be filed directly in adult court. Rape is one of the allegations, Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton said.

Combs bonded out of jail before appearing before a judge, records show.

An initial hearing in the case had not been set at press time.
