HANCOCK COUNTY — They acted out Bible stories, put motions to the songs, and built scenery (and sometimes snacks) around themes such as arctic exploring or making do after a shipwreck.

Local churches welcomed hundreds of children to Vacation Bible School this summer, sometimes for a week of nightly meetings, sometimes for a single action-packed day.

Some groups also worked together on service projects to help others — making fleece blankets, gathering canned food, pooling change to buy books for children abroad.
