MCCORDSVILLE — Officials from the Town of McCordsville issued a warning midday Wednesday that their town manager’s email address had been hacked and urged residents not to open any messages sent from the account.
The phishing-style message was from town manager Tonya Galbraith’s official email account — [email protected] — just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The email appeared to be advertising a part-time job and encouraged the recipient to open an attachment for more information.
“Thank me later,” the email stated before what seemed to be Galbraith’s signature, though it contained a disconnected phone number.
The town followed up with a second email and a Facebook post an hour later confirming the account had been compromised.
Galbraith’s email address is used for much of the town’s communication with its citizens. McCordsville’s weekly “Friday Email Blast” — a digital newsletter about the goings-on in the community — are sent via her account.
