McCORDSVILLE — A 91-year-old McCordsville woman was sexually assaulted inside her home, and police say they are still on the hunt for the assailant.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Traditions at Brookside senior living center, located at 6311 West County Road 900N in McCordsville.

The victim was home alone in a private independent-living residence on the center’s campus when the assault occurred. Her attacker was not at the house when law enforcement arrived.

Police are releasing little information, hoping to protect their ongoing investigation, McCordsville Police Chief Harold Rodgers said.

That includes not releasing any information about possible suspects, he said. But the department is asking anyone with information to call 317-335-2812, he said.

There were no signs of forced entry at the woman’s home, but some of her belongings were reportedly missing.

The victim activated a medical-alert device following the assault, and a representative from the company sent first-responders to the woman’s home, Rodger said. Evidence was then collected from the scene by police technicians.

Prosecutors have been alerted to the investigation, they say.

Aside from the alleged sexual assault, the woman had no visible injures. She’s doing as well as can be expected, Rodgers said.

“This is something you wouldn’t wish on anyone,” he remarked.
