Grandmothers charged after fight in park

GREENFIELD — The two grandmothers involved in an altercation in Greenfield’s Riley Park that ended in gunfire have been formally charged by prosecutors, records show.

Cristy Horton, 45, 772 E. Washington St., Monticello, and Tammy Brickles, 47, 2316 W. Walnut St., Greenfield, were taken into custody Monday evening after a civil dispute between their families ended with Horton pointing a gun at Brickles after Brickles pushed her, according to police.

The families were reportedly meeting in the park to exchange a child when a fight broke out. A single gunshot was fired into the ground during a struggle, according to court documents.

Prosecutors filed charges against the women late Tuesday, records show.

Horton faces one Level 5 felony count of criminal recklessness, one Level 6 felony count of pointing a firearm and one Class A misdemeanor of pointing a firearm. 

Brickles faces a single count of misdemeanor battery. 

Both women have been released from jail on bond.
