Greenfield-Central grad reaches championship

After successfully clearing the bar at a season-best height of 1.80m Thursday afternoon at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, Ball State junior and 2015 Greenfield-Central graduate Regan Lewis advanced to battle for the title of NCAA High Jump Champion at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships conducted June 6 through 9 in Eugene, Oregon.

The three-time defending Mid-American Conference high jump champion, Lewis cleared both 1.65m and 1.70m on her first attempt Thursday.

In the 1.80m round, Lewis was able to clear her season-best mark in her second attempt to finish tied for eighth in the competition and advance to compete for the title of NCAA High Jump Champion.

Lewis is the first Ball State student-athlete to reach the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2008, and the first to do so in the high jump since 1984.

Mt. Vernon tennis hosting summer camp

Mt. Vernon is set for its annual tennis camp, slated for the weeks of June 4 and June 11. 

The camp is open to anyone who will be in kindergarten through 12th grade this fall. The camp runs Monday through Friday each week, with the following schedule:

1 to 2 p.m.: Kindergarten through 3rd Grade

2 to 3 p.m.: 4th through 6th Grade

3 to 4:15 p.m.: 7th and 8th Grade

3:30 to 5:30 p.m.: 9th through 12th Grade

The camp is run by Gabe Muterspaugh, who has coached tennis at Mt. Vernon for 23 years. The camp will be staffed by former and current Mt. Vernon players, including all-state and former college players.

Volleyball youth camp set at Mt. Vernon

Mt. Vernon is hosting a volleyball camp for boys and girls the first week of June. 

Mt. Vernon High School coaching staff along with members of the 2015 and 2016 4A Sectional Championship teams will provide instruction to boys and girls in the fundamentals of volleyball.

The grade levels are based off of the 2018-2019 school year.

Where: Mt. Vernon Aux Gym

Dates: June 4 through 7

Incoming 2nd through 5th Grade: 9 to 10:15 a.m.

Incoming 6th through 8th Grade: 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Deadline to register is Friday.
