Dragons get 20th win of season

New Palestine hit the 20 win mark Thursday, beating Greenwood 13-4.

The Dragons hit their 20th win with a relentless offense that pounded 17 hits against three Greenwood pitchers, leading to two big innings. The Dragons started the game with a five-run first inning, then put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Grant Hickman (2-0), pitching his first game since April 10, got the win on the mound. He threw six-plus innings, scattering 10 hits and striking out four, for the victory. Jaden Jaques got the final three outs to seal the victory.

The top three batters in the order had nine of the Dragons’ 17 hits. Nick Rusche was 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs. Colby Jenkins was 3 for 5 with two runs and an RBI. Jack Walker was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Cameron Pitzer was 2 for 4 with a triple and a run. Jacob Bain was 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI. Brendan Tabor added a double and an RBI.

Dragons offense keeps rolling

New Palestine rolled to another victory Thursday, beating Lutheran 10-1.

The Dragons pounded 12 hits in the game, scoring twice each in the first two innings to go up 4-0. A four-run fourth broke the game open. New Palestine added two more in the fifth.

Michaela Jones had two doubles and four RBIs to lead the Dragons’ attack. Emily O’Connor led the offense with three hits, a run and an RBI. Jaylin Calvert had a single, a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ashley Prange had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Tatum Biddle had a single and drove in a run. Mackenzie Jones and TeTe Hart each also had hits.

The Dragons outhit Lutheran 12-5.

Mackenzie Jones got the pitching win, allowing three hits and one unearned run over five innings, striking out one. Kaylea Bullock had four strikeouts and allowed two hits over two scoreless innings.

Cougars roll past Carmel

After giving up the first run of the game in the first inning Thursday, Greenfield-Central buckled down, putting up two big innings en route to an 8-2 win against Carmel.

Kensie Bradley and Caroline Gibson had two hits each for the Cougars, and Gibson, Lexi Rankin and Macy Francis each had two RBIs. 

Madge Weidner pitched six strong innings in the win, allowing four hits and two runs. Rankin came on in relief and threw one scoreless inning.

Royals shut out by Lapel

Eastern Hancock struggled to get going offensively Thursday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Lapel.

The Royals outhit the Bulldogs six to four, with Faithe Webster getting two hits to lead the Eastern Hancock offense. 

Jessi Potts and Elise Bittinger each pitched three innings in the loss.

Golf

Royals fall to North Decatur

Eastern Hancock traveled to North Decatur for a head-to-head match Thursday, falling 183-217.

The Royals are now 2-5 on the year in head-to-heads.
