Royals offense rolls

Eastern Hancock had all cylinders firing on offense Thursday, winning big against Liberty Christian 18-3.

The Royals got things started in the first inning when Easton Fields singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

The Royals added five runs in the fourth inning. The offense was led by Payton Wilkinson, Jarett Lewis, AJ Muegge, and Fields, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Fields earned the win for Eastern Hancock. He surrendered two runs on four hits over three innings, striking out five. Spencer Maxwell threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Eastern Hancock had 17 hits in the game. Lewis, Fields, and Muegge all had multiple hits for Eastern Hancock Royals Varsity. Lewis led the way, going 4 for 4 at the plate with four RBIs.

Track

Marauders third in invite

Mt. Vernon competed in a nine-team field Thursday at Pendleton Heights, finishing third with 99 points behind winner Pendleton Heights, with 143, and runner-up Roncalli with 116.5.

Winning for the Marauders were Conner Nelson in the shot put, who also took third in the discus. Damari Gatewood won the high jump and Jailin Porter won the 100 and 200.

Drew Bluethmann took second in the 3,200, Steve Hogan was third in the pole vault and the 4×400 relay took a hard-fought second with Brent Donaldson, Alex Carver, Ashton Lewis and Michael Damer.

Tennis

Marauders top Cougars

Mt. Vernon got back to its winning ways at Greenfield-Central on Thursday, picking up a 5-0 win.

Alaina Nelson, Lydia Ruegsegger and Kaleigh Helm each won in two sets at singles. At doubles, Oliva Spicer and Sophie Williams won 6-2, 6-1 and Maeve Laughlin and Kaitlyn Dunlavy won 6-2, 6-4.

Royals fall to Vikings

Eastern Hancock still is looking for its first win of the season after traveling to Blue River Valley on Thursday and falling 5-0.

The Royals came close at No. 3 singles, as Valentina Brooks dropped her match 6-4, 7-5.

Tigers edge Dragons

The New Palestine girls varsity tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to the visiting Yorktown Tigers on Thursday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference clash.

The Tigers swept the singles matches to take a 3-0 winning lead before the Dragons won the No. 1 doubles encounter in straight sets. Juniors Josee King and Claire Cherry combined well to beat Yorktown senior Cecile Rousseau and junior Anna Rosenthall 6-1, 6-2 for the Dragons’ first point.

At No. 2 doubles, Dragons juniors Sheridan Schrowe and Ashley Truman produced another gutsy performance to defeat Tigers senior Megan Simpson and junior Elizabeth Kornilow 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).

Golf

Marauders get win

Mt. Vernon won their first dual match of the season Thursday against Pendleton Heights, 163-169. Garrett Nealon of Pendleton Heights was medalist with a round of 37.

The Marauders were led by Xavier Dunham, who shot a 39. He was followed by John Husar with a 40, Sam McWilliams with a 41, Blake Johnson with a 43 and Max Heitman with a 44.

Royals finish third

Eastern Hancock traveled to West Del on Thursday, finishing third against New Castle and West Del.

New Castle won with a 150. West Del shot a 210, and Eastern Hancock finished just behind with a 213.
