GREENFIELD — Two people were arrested this week after police say they were caught stealing from a local construction site.

Daniel Rutledge, 34, and a 16-year-old, whose name was not released, were taken into custody by Greenfield Police Department officers around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The two suspects were caught at a construction site in the 2200 block of William Way in Greenfield, loading various items into a van, police said. The construction site manager told police no one had permission to remove property from the site, officials said.

During the course of the investigation, police found Rutledge and the teen had drugs and other stolen items in their possession, officials said.

Police say the pair had narcotics as well as tools, copper pipe and wiring that was not from the Greenfield construction site.

Rutledge now faces three Class A misdemeanors of theft, possession of a controlled substance and criminal trespass. He remains in the Hancock County Jail, records show.

Officials have not released information about what charges the 16-year-old will face. Juvenile records are closed from the public.
