U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 6 DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE

Q: Partisan politics has been blamed for political gridlock at the federal level, ranging from approval of spending bills to Supreme Court nominations to filibusters on legislation. How is partisanship most problematic and how would you try to promote bipartisan efforts?

A: Throughout my campaign, I have found many problems with the current political climate — enough to write a book (and I plan to do so.) Mostly, elected officials are supposed to be administrators of public goods and services. Holders of MPAs (Master of Public Affairs), not MBAs (Master of Business Administration).

Q: Congress and the president so far have been unable to reach a compromise on a legislative solution for young immigrants who came into the U.S. illegally as children. Where do you stand on the “Dreamers” issue?

A: The federal government is responsible for the immigration problems of today, not the undocumented aliens. The blame rests on this country’s government failing to design a proper path to citizenship. Also, we should help the Mexican government set up a system fighting cartels.
