U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 6 DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE

Q: Partisan politics has been blamed for political gridlock at the federal level, ranging from approval of spending bills to Supreme Court nominations to filibusters on legislation. How is partisanship most problematic and how would you try to promote bipartisan efforts?

A: We aren’t all right or left, black or white, conservative or liberal. We want fiscal responsibility, reasonable gun laws and to protect Americas from those who wish harm. If the GOP has good ideas, I’ll support them. If Democrats propose a questionable law, I’ll scrutinize it for my constituents.

Q: Congress and the president so far have been unable to reach a compromise on a legislative solution for young immigrants who came into the U.S. illegally as children. Where do you stand on the “Dreamers” issue?

A: Let law-abiding “Dreamers,” keep dreaming. Time was we appreciated differences in cultures, and diversity was the rainbow we all celebrated. Unless we are Native Americans indigenous to this country, we all are immigrants from somewhere else. We all came here differently, but we’re in the same boat now.
