U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 6 DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE
Q: Partisan politics has been blamed for political gridlock at the federal level, ranging from approval of spending bills to Supreme Court nominations to filibusters on legislation. How is partisanship most problematic and how would you try to promote bipartisan efforts?
A: Partisan politics is destroying our republic. Both parties are at fault and need to learn that compromise isn’t a dirty word. I would reach out to all colleagues to work for legislation that benefits all Americans. Once elected, you represent all the people, not just those of your party.
Q: Congress and the president so far have been unable to reach a compromise on a legislative solution for young immigrants who came into the U.S. illegally as children. Where do you stand on the “Dreamers” issue?
A: I support “Dreamers” because it’s not fair to deport good, hard-working, productive people who are here through no fault of their own. It’s my belief that “Dreamers” should be given a reasonable path to citizenship. No person should be removed from the only home they’ve known because of politics.
