The New Palestine baseball team used two big innings Tuesday to come back from a seven-run deficit to beat Batesville 11-7.
The Dragons scored six runs in the seventh inning to seize the lead and the game.
The Dragons trailed 7-0 headed into the fifth before storming back. New Palestine plated five runs in the fifth, chasing Batesville’s starting pitcher.
Jacob Garrison’s grand slam — his second homer in as many days — keyed the fifth inning. That frame drew the Dragons within two. Trailing 7-5, New Palestine then scored six runs in the seventh to win it. Colby Jenkins’ two-run triple was the big hit that led to the win.
Marauders move to 4-0 with win
Mt. Vernon jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning against host Westfield, building momentum early en route to an 11-2 win.
The Marauders offense was led by Jake Stank, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Eli Clotfelter got the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs in five innings.
Cougars lead, then fall to Fishers
Greenfield-Central led in the third inning before falling behind, losing 13-8 to No. 5 Fishers. Seth Robertson took the loss on the mound. He threw four innings.
Nick Atwood and Seth Robertson both had a hit and a RBI for the Cougars.
Golf
Cougars win, Dragons finish third
The New Palestine boys golf team opened its season Tuesday in a three-way match at The Legends in Franklin, finishing third.
The Dragons shot 188, falling to Greenfield-Central (175) and Whiteland (181).
The Cougars’ Zach Archer was medalist with a score of 39.
Quinn Dobbins was the low Dragon with a 41 for nine holes.
Softball
Eastern Hancock rallies for win
The Eastern Hancock Royals fell behind 5-2 in the third inning Tuesday but rallied for a 12-8 win against Knightstown.
The Royals were led by Eriel Truitt, who was 4-for-5 with five RBIs.
Cougars roll past Centerville in 5
Greenfield-Central topped Centerville on Tuesday, 13-3 in five innings.
Kensie Bradley was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, Sam Kihega had a double, home run and four runs scored, and Macy Francis went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Tennis
Marauders fall to Franklin Central
Mt. Vernon traveled to Franklin Central on Tuesday and came up just short, losing 3-2.
Freshman No. 2 Lydia Ruegsegger won her match 6-2, 6-0. The Marauders other win came from senior No. 1 Alaina Nelson, who won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Cougars lose close match to Morristown
Greenfield-Central played a close match against Morristown on Tuesday that ended up coming down to singles, eventually falling 3-2.
With their doubles teams both winning quickly, the Cougars appeared to be in a good position to win the match. Morristown won all three singles matches though to seal the win.
Dragons edge past Triton Central
New Palestine got past host Triton Central 3-2 on Tuesday in a close contest played in bitterly cold conditions.
With the match locked at 2-2, the Dragons’ No. 2 doubles team of junior Sheridan Schrowe and sophomore Ashley Truman held its nerve in a tense three-setter against Tigers seniors Amelia Hough and Colleen Sanders, winning 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) to give New Palestine the victory.

Cougars boys 1st, girls 2nd at meet
The Greenfield-Central track teams competed in a tri-meet Tuesday against New Castle and Scecina, with the boys getting a win and the girls team finishing second.
The Cougars boys won 11 total events, and the girls picked up nine event wins in a narrow loss to New Castle.
