HANCOCK COUNTY — Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. recently was awarded an energy efficiency improvement rebate from NineStar Connect, a communications and utilities company headquartered in Hancock County.

The Power Moves Rebate Program offers rebates to NineStar Connect electric members for qualifying energy efficiency projects. The Power Moves program is offered in cooperation with NineStar Connect’s generation and transmission provider Wabash Valley Power Association.

The Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. received $8,990 for upgrading light fixtures at their new performance enhancement center, located at the southeast corner of County Road 200W and State Road 234. The upgrades included a combination of high efficiency LED and fluorescent light fixtures.

“Once again, we are thrilled to work with Mt. Vernon Community Schools,” said Matt Strahl, NineStar’s Energy Advisor. “Anytime we can provide energy rebates to our members while at the same time creating ongoing energy efficiencies, it truly creates a win-win for everyone involved.”

Mt. Vernon schools superintendent Shane Robbins said the corporation is pleased to partner with NineStar Connect.

NineStar Connect was established in 2011 when Hancock Telecom and Central Indiana Power merged their cooperatives, one of only two collectives to combine telecommunications and utilities companies in the country.

The communications division offers services including broadband Internet, telephone, video and security to residential and business customers. The electric services division provides electric power to customers in Hancock and parts of Hamilton, Madison and Rush counties. NineStar Connect has approximately 14,000 customers with about 5,000 customers having services from both the communications and electric divisions.
