Marauders open season with victory
Mt. Vernon’s baseball team started the season with a 7-5 victory at Brebeuf on Monday.
Caleb Rush, Eli Clotfelter and Cole Cain combined to strike out 12 Braves while allowing eight hits. Rush started, threw two scoreless innings and earned the win.
Offensively, Mt. Vernon was led by Dino Tharp, who hit a two-run home run; Sam McCarty, who had three hits; and Dylan Cole, Mason Montgomery and Matthew Boyle, who each had two hits.

Weather cancels all area games
Inclement weather caused postponements of all Hancock County sports Tuesday.
Events affected were Greenfield-Central baseball, Mt. Vernon track and baseball, and New Palestine track, baseball and softball.
New Palestine’s softball game against Southport has been moved to April 24. Greenfield-Central’s game against Roncalli has been moved to April 23 at Roncalli. All other games are awaiting a rescheduled date.

Volleyball teams hosting fundraising tournament
The New Palestine and Triton Central volleyball teams will join together to host a fundraising tournament June 2 at the Triton Central fieldhouse.
The tournament is open to male and female players, ages 14 and up, of all skill levels. Teams of up to six players may register, with the registration fee of $125 per team. The proceeds from the tournament will be divided between the Triton Central and New Palestine volleyball programs. Players must register by May 30 by sending an email to [email protected].

Several New Palestine High School athletics teams will be offering summer camps in 2017. Unless otherwise noted, the cost of all camps is $35, with checks to be made out to CSCSHC. The camp sign-up sheets can be found at newpalestineathletics.com.
