INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana State Trooper serving Hancock County for years has been promoted to the rank of detective, said superintendent Douglas Carter.

Wade Heiny, now a law enforcement officer serving the Indianapolis district, will cover Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, Boone, Hendricks, Johnson and Shelby counties.

Heiny is a native of Gas City and a 2005 graduate of Mississinewa High School, according to a state police news release.

Heiny went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wabash College. After college, he worked as a care coordinator for Midtown Community Health.

In 2012, Heiny was accepted into the 72nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, and he graduated in December 2012. His first assignment was to the Indianapolis district, where he patrolled on afternoon shift in Marion and Hancock counties for more than five years. During his career, Heiny has been a member of the honor guard, a field training officer and a certified meth lab technician.
