Phillip Eugene Boring, 78, of New Palestine, Indiana, passed away on March 17, 2018. Phillip was the son of Eugene and Bernice Boring (both deceased) and beloved husband of Janice.

Phillip is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Jorg), Amy (John), and Susan (Larry); grandchildren, Allison (Addison), Aaron, Nathan (Moriah), and Emily; and, brother, Gary (Karyl).

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kay.

He attended Moral Township School grades 1-12. Phillip graduated from Purdue University, where he played basketball and rowed with the Purdue Crew. After graduating from Purdue, he served in the US Army and then returned home to the family farm. Phillip was a respected farmer in Shelby County. Boring Farms was founded by Phillip’s great grandfather in 1853. Phillip expanded Boring Farms and started his own corporation, LOI, with Janice. He served the Purdue Farm Policy Group, Indiana Farm Management Association, Indiana Pork Producers, International Flying Farmers, and the Tomato Growers Association. He received awards and recognitions for his success and innovation in agriculture, including the Certificate of Distinction from Purdue University and the Roman Romanowski Award. He was a valued member of the Shelby County Co-Op Board of Directors for 20 years.

He was a lifetime member of Carrollton United Methodist Church.

Phillip was a talented musician, playing his saxophones in multiple bands and groups, including leading his own big band, The Sentimental Moods, for many years. He owned a private plane his entire life and enjoyed getting up and away from it all. Phillip also enjoyed traveling. Phillip, Janice, and their family enjoyed trips, including special trips with each of the grandkids, over the years all over the USA and to many foreign countries.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 West US 40, Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church, 1880 W 900 N, Fountaintown, IN 46130. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine with Military Honors to follow.
