GREENFIELD — Sommeliers and shoppers come together this month for a downtown wine-and-canvas event at a local second-hand shop.

Hope House Thrift Store, 35 E. Pierson St. in Greenfield, opens its doors from 6 to 8 p.m. March 22 for artists of all skill levels to pick up a paintbrush while sipping reds and whites. Your $45 ticket includes on-site instruction, materials including an 11-by-14 canvas and — of course — the vino to ease any artistic anxiety. How much? “We’re generous!” say organizers.

Sip and shop

The event aims to introduce those who might not normally make their way through the thrift store’s doors to all it has to offer. Organizers hope attendees will cozy up to paint for a bit, then take time to explore the aisles. The Hope House Thrift Store sells furniture, children’s toys, clothes, knick-knacks and more.

You can feel good about throwing your money around, too. They’ll have extra coupons and sales, for one. And the store helps support the attached Hope House, the county’s lone homeless shelter.

Paint like a pro

Attendees will be invited to paint one of two designs (a sneak peek is available on the Facebook event, “Hope House Thrift Store Wine & Canvas). Each features a monogram and striped background.

Feeling intimidated? No worries. Local artist Justine Jones of Willing Hands Design will be available to walk participants through their painting, step by step. Free painting also is encouraged for the braver budding artists.

Don’t delay

Space for the event is limited to about 20 people, so make sure to buy your tickets in advance. They’re available by visiting the thrift store or giving organizers a call at 317-477-0213. Not available this time? Stay tuned. The shop plans to offer the event once per quarter.
