HENRY COUNTY — A Greenfield woman was injured in a crash that claimed the life of a Henry County man Sunday afternoon, according to Indiana State Police investigators.

Paula Brown Gardner, 46, of Greenfield, was riding in a pickup truck that collided head-on with a sport-utility vehicle driven by Paul Young, 49, of New Lisbon, near the intersection of State Road 38 and County Road 300W in Henry County around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Young was taken to Henry County Community Hospital in New Castle, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Brown Gardner also was transported to the hospital, along with the driver of the pickup truck, James Wicker, 51, of Straughn, and a passenger in the SUV, Lindy Gayle Goodson, 43, of New Lisbon. All were treated for non life-threatening injuries, police said.

A preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police found that Young crossed the center line while driving east on State Road 38, just east of County Road 300W.

Young’s SUV side-swiped Wicker’s westbound pickup truck. The front driver’s side of the SUV also struck a horse trailer being pulled by the pickup truck, police said.

The crash left State Road 38 near County Road 300W closed for more than four hours will crews investigated.
