Verna M. Walton, 93, of Greenfield, passed away on February 25, 2018 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1924, to the late Paul and Sadie (Craig) Slaven in Clinton, Indiana.

Verna spent her life as a homemaker taking care of her family. She married the love of her life, Ralph Edward Walton, a decorated U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Verna was a dedicated member of Greenfield Friends Church for over 50 years, where she was President of the Churches Ladies Auxiliary. Verna enjoyed sewing, crafts, making doll houses, crocheting, and was passionate about volunteering at Hancock Regional Hospital

Left to cherish Verna’s memory is her son, Ralph (Brenda) Walton Jr.; daughters, Jeannette VanWinkle; Christy Downing; brothers, Paul Slaven Jr.; James Slaven; sister, Alice Robertson; grandchildren, Tammy VanWinkle; Richard Walton; Jill Brown; Terry VanWinkle Jr.; Keith Downing; Douglas Downing; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Preceding Verna in death are her parents mentioned above; brother, Wilfred “Bill” Slaven; her husband, Ralph E. Walton, and two son-in-laws, Terry VanWinkle and Frank Downing.

Visitation for Verna will be held from 11:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 W. Main St, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 12:00p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, 621 S. State St, Greenfield, IN 46140.
