NEW PALESTINE — Gavin Hausz celebrated senior night with a team-high 21 points to lead the host New Palestine Dragons to a decisive 63-49 victory against Whiteland on Saturday night.

Hausz, a senior, scored the Dragons’ first seven points and added six more in the fourth quarter to help New Palestine improve to 12-9 on the season. He was one of four Dragons to post double figures.

Maximus Gizzi had 12 points. Dylan Romine added 11 points, while Dawson Eastes had 10 points.

New Palestine trailed Whiteland early 15-4, but a three-point play by Hausz kicked off a tide-turning 20-4 run, which put the Dragons up 24-19.

Matthew True had five points for New Palestine. Kyle King finished with four points. Brennan Neal led the Warriors with 19 points.

The Dragons conclude the regular season Friday night at Greenwood.

Cougars ground Orioles

The Greenfield-Central boys basketball team knocked off host Avon 53-44 on Saturday night to improve to 7-14 on the season.

The victory was the third in four games for the surging Cougars, who rallied back from a 15-11 deficit with a solid defensive showing in the second quarter.

Greenfield-Central held Avon scoreless after the first frame to lead 21-15 at halftime. A 20-point fourth quarter by the Cougars sealed the victory.

Brian Long finished with a game-high 15 points and 13 rebounds for Greenfield-Central. Will O’Connor had 14 points. Caleb Mundell and Logan Graddy each chipped in eight points. Matt Turner added five and Brady Mundell had three.

The Cougars wrap up the regular season at home Thursday against Plainfield.

Marauders fall to Woodmen

The Mt. Vernon boys basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover Saturday, losing to Greenwood 60-46.

The Marauders are now 11-9 on the season with two more regular-season games left before the postseason.

Damari Gatewood led the Marauders with 12 points against Greenwood. Cade Gentry scored 10 points, followed by Peyton Meadors with nine. Tyler Bostic had eight. Keith Rupert added three. Joe Miles and Max Burhenn both chipped in two points apiece.

The Marauders travel to Westfield tonight and play their final Hoosier Heritage Conference game Friday at Yorktown.
