GREENFIELD — The public is invited to the Hancock County Master Gardeners’ monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hancock County Extension Office, located on the county fairgrounds at 802 N. Apple St. in Greenfield.
The featured speaker for this meeting is Joe Whitfield, who will speak about Pritzke’s Pond at Beckenholdt Park. Whitfield is a master gardener who also works for the Greenfield Parks Department.
Pritzke’s Pond is really a wetland area fed only by ground water runoff. Last summer, all of the land surrounding the pond was acquired along with another 11 acres of woods connected to the park and next to Interstate 70. The parks department controls the pond along with the rest of the park. Whitfield will discuss a plant inventory done around the pond, including the discovery of a plant on the threatened list in Indiana, plus the invasive plants that will have to be controlled.
