FORTVILLE — A baby suffered a mild concussion, and two adults were taken to an Indianapolis hospital after they were struck by a car while trying to cross a Fortville street Thursday evening.

Police say a juvenile driver was stopped at a stop sign on Illinois Street and was turning onto Madison Street when the crash occurred around 7 p.m. Thursday. When she pulled out into the intersection, she struck the two pedestrians and the child they were pushing in a stroller, according to police.

The baby was transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where doctors learned the child had suffered a mild concussion.

The two adults were taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said. Each suffered various bone fractures, officials said.

The victims, including the baby, are expected to recover, he said.

Investigators believe the incident was just an accident, Fortville Police Maj. Pat Bratton said; they do not plan to issue a citation to the young driver.

The girl checked north- and southbound traffic before she pulled out into the intersection but did not see the couple as the crossed the street at an angle, headed westbound, Bratton said.

Police do not believe the girl was texting at the time of accident, he said. She also submitted to breathalyzer and blood tests, which came back negative for any alcohol or drugs use, he said.
